That's a fun boss fight, where he breaks your platforms and stuff... Love having environments get smashed up and changed during boss fights, I dunno why I don't do that more often. This feels like it will be a whole bucket of fun when it all ties together!

I allways think of the best stuff right after I finish the game. I was so fucking annoyed you could ride a crocodile in Castle Crashers, but you couldn't even jump in Crunchdown. That's one o the reasons I'm makin the development of this one public.

omg you just got fulp'd

I don't feel any different.

Wow, everything about this was amazing. You should be super proud. ALSO BRITISH POWER!

you are too fucking patient.. oh man that looks soooo nice! i'm too lazy to make some shit like this -.-

congrats

how do you stand all that AS? i can't even stand enough to make a basic quiz game (which sucked by the way. i still screwed up on what is really basic actionscript)

Very slowly. And I make awesome games out of it.

I loved the crawler, awesome new elements he adds (watching out for enemies rather than just killing then when they come on screen) the background of level two was great (heh panning 3D and the boss walking around)

Good to see you moved the gun dog to level two ^^

A boss with phases would be pretty damn awesome!

BTW: my internet is too fast I didn't get to see the loader :(

The white pixelated bar that's got 5 sections- Those sections just appear gradually, I was talking more about everything else.

On the second "dark" level, the part where you have to shoot boxes out of place to get through was not obvious to me. I could see that there was more but it took quite a while to figure out how to get there. Love the 3d perspective. It may be easier not to add a death animation until the end of development, so it would be easier to test. The crab boss took me a while to figure out also. Maybe I am just dumb, go ahead and tell me if you think I am. :P

I think its okay to have more "dumb" than "shit that's cool". It seems to me the way the game is going, the gameplay is all about "shit that's cool", the cut scenes and dialogues are the "dumb". I you should let it continue that way. I'm totally fine with whatever as long as you don't start making it serious to add some cool shit.

Are these going to be the first 3 levels in order? It doesn't matter too much to me, but I think its a bit odd without any transitions between the levels that seem to make sense. Also remember to make a difficulty curve in the game, it doesn't seem to have that right now.

When you are running and shooting, it doesn't look quite right having a bullet from nowhere. I am assuming you knew this, do you intend to fix it? Its not much of a problem, but with everything else so smooth, and from the best Flash developer ever, it stands out, as being pretty much the only obvious flaw.

Also, on level 2, the flash light, fog of darkness type effect I am assuming is a big movieclip with a little transparent part in the middle as a visible area or something. If you move your mouse far enough from the player, he still is there. It would be annoying though not to be able to see your player. Maybe make it so the player has a darker shade over him, it would look better.

jesus fucking christ thats a long post

Yeah I started writing it on the 27th of September 2008

well, mr smel guy. I have to tell you something about this little game.
I'm sorry about reporting this, but i found a huge glitch. i played as always, but performing lots of the radial thingy attack. then, i couldn't kill the bat thingy, and they didn't hurt me... also the crab was completely still. sorry, but i think that was weird

whatever jodie

Good game so far, how long is it planned to be.
(like how many levels, and will all of them have boss battles?)
and I love the hidden treasure on each level.

there's two treasures on each level so far

the total number of levels is 7, each with it's own boss :(

I've been following this since the beginning, figured I should finally leave a comment, this being as awesome as it is.

The controls are as fun as hell; I would love to just run around a maze with this guy, and would probably spend hours doing so. The basic melee attack doesn't get used nearly as often as the gun, but maybe I'm just playing it wrong.

A few things about level 1: I thought the gundog was removed from the first level because he didn't really fit the feel? And what happened to the stairs in the house?
Level 2: The 3D effect would be less distracting I think if the effect didn't lag behind the screen movement, but I don't know if that's possible (having only coded in useless GML). Your life bar's hard to see in the dark; you can see the white but you don't know if that's half, full, or what. And I too didn't figure out how to move forward for a while; perhaps if you made the box move when you walljumped on it?

Just nitpicks of course; I'm having shitloads of fun playing the game as it is. Looking forward to every update.

I hardly use the gun, I just run up to everything and smash it.

Yeah, Gundog didn't fit in the the environment as much as the other enemies on level 1. The wheelman, chomp guy and bomb thing are all organic alien-type brown things. Gundog is completely different, he's mechanical and metal and shoots lasers. So I put him on level 2 where he'd reflect the level more and introduce the playe to the charge-up laser concept before the boss fight.

The stairs in the house and light house were confusing people. Nobody knew how to run up them, and the fact was that you actually couldn't. So now there's no stairs in the game atall- Except ones that you can run up and down.

I didn't notice that background was a frame behind the camera. Ok I'll sort it out.

The health bar's staying black, and I don't want to change it just for one level. I guess it only really matters when you're nearly dead and when you aren't. I'll put a slight gradient behind it and see if that helps.

I meant to make a wall-jump push the box, I'll do that now. I have to have the box there to slow the player down so he doesn't just run passed that enemy. It's like when Half Life blocks your way with a bunch of crates and barrels.

ok thanks

*Epiphany

ok.

Its sooo goood!

Also.. its a shame that a good game didnt come with that Special Edition... D:
(like L4D)

Far Cry 2 is a VERY VERY annoying game.

When you jump and hit the ceiling, you stay suspended in the air.

That is long overdue for a fix.

HI JODIE!!!

P.S. The game is looking great, especially the animation for the new enemy. Can't wait until it's done.

I think your games are great Jodie, here's a thought about this one; the semi-auto gun concept is nice, however, there should be a limit on how fast you can shoot (just like in modern fps games) or make the bosses a bit tougher. Also more ranged opponents/bombs thrown at you would be nice. Dodging is fun.
Also, instead of having a "line" shot at enemies, make it be a bullet trail that fades out -major aesthetic improvement.

Whenever I tell a game to shoot and it doesn't shoot, I get a tiny little bit more annoyed. It feels like the game's working against me and I hate it. Also I've given the player a very kinetic, fluid and fast character- Guns with huge recoil are the antithesis of that. Modern FPS games are going for realistic and believable weaponry- I'm not.

I SHOULD have more ranged enemies and explosives. Let's do it.

I want to change the shots slightly; I want to have a line of smoke that disperses in a wave. For a while, I didn't quite know how to do it, but considering it now it's probably easier than I thought. I'll try it this week.

I love the DMC style action, and was wondering what you were thinking of making purchasable. I'd love to see a teleportation attack available for purchase, maybe integrated into the charge attacks that are already there. In fact, any powerups that could further speed up the combat would be great. Also, the bat part is just a tad overwhelming. I'm also thinking that maybe you could add a miniboss fight with a vehicle made up of enemies (i.e. Wheelmen for wheels, Gundogs for guns, cages with bats in them, etc.). And more stage changing bosses. Sorry for the long post with shitty grammar, I should probably go to bed now.

tl;dr shit's awesome, keep it up

if i I stand on the edge of the area with the crawler dude, he can't reach me, and will just stay up there. probably not a glitch, but just puttin' it out there

I tried to avoid that, it must need some tweaking.
