i like newgrounds before it changed 7/17/07 you remember when your profile was just that little pop up window or when you gave a movie/game review you would give (graphics) or (sound) (humor (violance) a certain number and then present your overall score? i know i sound nastalgic but i just can't help but to like the old NG better btw im really looking in to snes remakes im still hunting down the program and figuring how to get the file sizes below 10mb know what i mean?
I think the interface and community stuff on the site is like a hundred times better than it was. I mean come on, I just made a news post on the front page and now we're talkin about shit, that's great.

Well the way I see, newgrounds hasn't changed much in the years. I've been around since 03 and it's been the same, litterily everyone and anyone can post what they like without being ridculed or repromanded. It's one of the few sites I can think of where there are little to no rules.
I think hentai and any other effortless creation plays a part(even if it's a small one) to represent that. Everything by everyone is it's slogan and I thinks it's been serious enough to keep to that. Since we are all apart of the community, it's only as serious as we allow it too be.
Whether it's after seeing something so appauling that you feel better about your own talents or seeing something so amazing that you have to be apart of it, I think any newcomer to newgrounds will take it seriously...even if it does showcase effortless crap on frontpage, that represents one part of the site. The other part is represented by you.
Well my problem is exactly that it hasn't changed enough. Newgrounds used to be some dumb site where you can get free games, and now it's 2009 and we never shook off that underground reputation of being punk as fuck. I guess I want to grow out of that. Newgrounds is more than just an out-of-bedroom website now, but it doesn't feel like it.

You have a point. it has been almost 15 years since newgrounds was created and despite all the great stuff it offers, it hasn't gotten even close to the recognition as youtube did in like only 3-4 years. I would like to see newgrounds showcased and respected besides the internet. Then the world see the glory that is cannon crotch, even though it has nothing on duck sim.
i hate to tell you but newgrounds is never gonna be serious. the 13 year old audience doesn't want it to be.

We're in the only sector of the industry not controlled by exec BS.
Even indie games when they want people to actually play their games have to jump through hoops for live arcade, PSN etc.
Yet here we are, having the time of our lives. And believe me, you will look back on this period as the time of your life. You're on the fast track to being a huge name I-smel. The quality of your work raises the bar, and I'm a big fan, you're one of my favourite of the younger submitters, don't worry yourself over such silly things and appreciate what we have.
When the NG staff stop making fun of themselves and enjoying the ride, I'm leaving.

Yeah okay, exec BS is a big point. Like I'd probably rather build up my shit on Newgrounds than some boring faceless business. If you take it to the extremes, then indiepunk Newgrounds is probably alot more fun to make games on than a black-text-on-white-background Newgrounds.
I bet skimming under the radar like this is how they get away with alot of the un-PC stuff. Someone has to represent that. I totally believe what you're sayin about appreciating the freedom to do shit uncensored.

and i also dont like how the staff doesnt take the site seriously...animations like lins dick are on the front page??? where did NG go so wrong...spammers should go to ebaumsworld and use the ripped off portal they have and stay there where 13 year old humor is still funny...this website just needs to be a site for people who are responsible and want NG to be a professional setting for insightful crtique on work...there is no way anyone can improve when you get reviews like "OMG SUCKS!"
and anytime i see something or hear something that is deep and inspiring someone has to see it and just rip it apart for not being a penis joke...
I dont know maybe we are the minority here, but i submit to NG so people can see and hear what ive got, and be able to better myself as an artist, musician, etc...

I was mostly talkin about the site's aesthetic and y'know reputation and stuff. As far as the internet being full of dumbasses- Nobody can do anythin about that. I laugh at dicks like everyone else, but my main point was that Newgrounds does all this great stuff that nobody really knows about. Like there's so much more BEHIND the cocks.
Like I said to EXP though, the only real way for Newgrounds to keep it up is to play their cards close to their chest.

I totally agree with you on this point. Every time I show one of my friends my movies on NG they get scarred of touching the website because it is supposedly the underground of the internet filled with porn and viruses . I agree that NG has evolved into something much different then it was originally and it should have MUCH greater recognition then websites like Youtube. But you should also keep in mind that we are very lucky to be able to freely express ourselves without limitations because of such nonrecognition. Imagine all the fuss some of the movies would cause in the media and all the shit NG would get into. Tom and the guys are probably just trying to maintain the feeling of fun and jokes that started this Place.

the 5 years that i've been here it really hasn't changed THAT much. just new people came and old people left. it's not as small as it used to be but more people can be a good thing too. you get to meet more people like you than maybe just the 1 or 2 from before.
as the hentai on front page thing goes, i kind of agree but kind of disagree. the inside jokes such as the shape movies and random portal influences and clock day and pico day etc are what make the community what it is. to the outside community, now that i'm older and have more of a social life, not many people know what it is or have only heard of it. it hasn't really changed much. we have.
and yeah. the people who submit serious things as opposed to crappy joke movies making fun of something like a crew or newgrounds community are the ones that will get a job doing this stuff in the future instead of wasting their time they spend on art, on stuff they end up admitting is crap in the end.

I take it seriously and at times not, but its the real artists that will have professional jobs, but it would be nice to be here in our community and not have the twat fuckers. This year everyone is just having a good time and anyone who is a newgrounds citizen knows whats up. I feel the same way when i talk about newgrounds to my friends who also only use the web shit. I always felt in a non-fascist way, a new swat team of users needs to clean up the site a bit.
